ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia volleyball team will open a season-long, five-match home stand with two Southeastern Conference matches this weekend at the Ramsey Student Center.
Georgia (4-8, 0-2 SEC), who is coming off a five-match road swing, opens the home stand on Friday against Ole Miss (5-5, 1-1 SEC) at 7 p.m. ET. On Sunday, the Bulldogs will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide (6-6, 0-2 SEC) at 1:30 p.m.
After this weekend's play, the home stand will also include contests against South Carolina (Sept. 30), Florida (Oct. 2) and Auburn (Oct. 5).
The Georgia-Ole Miss match will be the first home SEC match of the 2011 season for the Bulldogs. Last year, UGA won its SEC home opener defeating 20th-ranked Tennessee, 3-2. UGA has played Ole Miss three times in SEC home openers going 3-0. In the all-time series between the schools, the Bulldogs lead 36-13, but the Rebels have won the last three meetings.
In the all-time series with Alabama, the Bulldogs lead 21-18 including wins in the last three meetings. Over the last 10 UGA-UA contests, the series is tied 5-5.
Live video and live stats will be available for both contests this weekend via www.georgiadogs.com. The first 500 fans to the Georgia-Ole Miss contest on Friday will receive trading cards, and the Bulldogs will hold a post-match autograph session. On Sunday, the first 25 groups of four UGA students will receive free pizza. Admission is free to all regular season matches in the Ramsey Student Center.
