Battling Back From 0-2

Georgia has started its season 0-2 only 11 times since the program's first season in 1892. The last time was in 1996 when the Bulldogs dropped their first two contests to Southern Miss and South Carolina before beating Texas Tech 15-12 to finish the year 5-6. Georgia has posted only a single winning season after starting 0-2. The 1979 Bulldogs fell in their first three games before beating Ole Miss in game four and winning six out of their last eight games. Georgia finished that season 6-5.

Also of note, Coastal Carolina has started its season off 2-0 for the first time since 2005. The Chanticleers finished that year 10-1, losing to Charleston Southern 34-27 in the final game of the year.

Keep An Eye On Boykin

Senior Brandon Boykin is starting to remind the Bulldog nation of former Bulldog All-American Champ Bailey (UGA 1996-98) with his versatility. While junior cornerback Branden Smith has seen action on offense, defense and special teams in his career, Boykin is now doing the same with even more flair. He has four career kickoff returns for a touchdown, and against No. 5 Boise State, he had an 80-yard rushing touchdown on his first career carry. This past Saturday, he had a school record seven kickoff returns and tallied 198 all-purpose yards against No. 5 South Carolina.

For the second week in a row, Boykin has been named to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll. This award recognizes the most versatile player in major college football and it has selected Boykin for his performance against the Broncos and the Gamecocks.

Did You Know?

Boykin leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks sixth nationally with an average of 194 all-purpose yards a game. (All-purpose yards include rushing, receiving, punt returns and kickoff returns). Boykin is the highest ranked defensive player among the NCAA leaders in this category with the next defensive player checking in at No. 92 (TCU's Greg McCoy with 244 kickoff return yards).
