ATHENS ----- Thirteen of Georgia's athletic teams posted grade point averages of over 3.00 during 2011 Spring Semester, and the combined GPA of all UGA student-athletes for the same semester was exactly 3.00, according to the recently compiled grade report for Spring 2011.

The Bulldog men's cross country runners compiled the highest team GPA at 3.37, while swimmers led all female student-athletes with a 3.34 average. Of particular note, however, were the academic performances of four teams: baseball, men's basketball, softball and volleyball teams. All four posted improved marks during the spring, led by a 3.25 team GPA from volleyball, 3.07 by baseball, 3.02 from softball and 2.87 from men's basketball.

"We're very proud of the achievements of all our student-athletes," said Ted White, Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services. "The 3.0 overall GPA is a benchmark that we all strive for and it's very gratifying that we were able to reach it. Of course, the student-athletes deserve much of the credit, but it's definitely a group effort. We have a very dedicated staff that works diligently in support of these young men and women. And we also have outstanding leadership in our administration and coaching staffs, who have all made academic performance a priority."

Fifty-three percent, or 277, of Georgia's 524 student-athletes posted a 3.00 GPA or better during the Spring Semester. Of that group, 19 achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs while another 118 had grade averages between 3.50 and 3.99.
