ATHENS, Ga. --- More than 200 University of Georgia Athletic Association coaches and staff members spread out around Athens and Clarke County on Monday, conducting community service projects.

"This community means so much to us, and it's our pleasure to take some time to give something back," said UGA Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. "There is a quote that reads, 'Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.' We want to be an active association; we want to do something. This was a great chance for our staff and our coaches to work together and to be exposed to some new opportunities and experiences. We were thanked at every stop along the way today, but it was equally appropriate for us to thank them. We left every project uplifted. This was an important and enjoyable day for our association."

The Athletic Association employees worked in several different areas, including four Athens elementary schools, five assisted living facilities, the American Red Cross, the Athens Area Humane Society, the Athens Community Council on Aging, Bike Athens, the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, Memorial Park, Keep Athens Beautiful, Southern Care Hospice, Project Safe, and the Boys and Girls Club of Athens.
