ATHENS -- John Jenkins scored all of his 21 points in the second half as No. 18 Vanderbilt rallied from a 14-point deficit to defeat Georgia 64-56 in a key SEC Eastern Division matchup here Wednesday night.

The Commodores (19-6, 7-4) took over sole possession of second place in the East by winning this contest. For the first 30 minutes, however, Georgia (17-8, 6-5) appeared the better team.

"That was a tough loss," Georgia coach Mark Fox said. "Vanderbilt shot great from the 3-point line in the second half and beat us badly on the glass. Our kids played hard, but Vanderbilt shot the ball well in the second half and you have to give them credit for that."

After taking a 27-21 lead at halftime, the Bulldogs built their margin into double digits early in the final period. Gerald Robinson's driving layup with 15:28 left put Georgia ahead 37-26. Reserve guard Sherrard Brantley then followed a Vanderbilt miss by draining a 3-pointer from the left wing, boosting the Georgia lead to its largest at 40-26.

That's when Jenkins joined the battle.

The two teams traded empty trips before the sophomore shooter, who had yet to scratch, hit a 3-pointer with 13:16 left. Still, with 3-pointers from Robinson and Travis Leslie on consecutive possessions, Georgia kept its lead at 53-40 at the 9:47 mark.

Leslie's trey, however, became the final field goal for Georgia on the night.

The Commodores pulled within a single point at 53-52 by sinking four straight 3-pointers, the first three by Jenkins and the fourth by guard Brad Jenkins at the 4:47 mark. Jenkins put Vandy in the lead for good 57-55 on a jumper with 2:51 left.
