ATHENS, Ga. - Michelina Carbone became the first signee of the early signing period for the five-time national champion Georgia Equestrian team when she signed her National Letter of Intent earlier this week. The Indiana native will compete for the western team at Georgia. Carbone is the daughter of Dr. Ralph and Dr. Jodi Carbone and trains with Alan Mitchells, Brenda Thomison and Mitch and Jennifer Leckey.

"Michelina joins the University of Georgia as a top athlete and scholar," assistant coach Mary Meneely said. "Michelina produces consistent results in both the AQHA and NRHA show arena, placing in the top ten at all major Reining events in 2011!"

Carbone competes in the All-Around and Reining events and has earned top-10 performances at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress, the American Quarter Horse Youth Association Youth World Show and the National Reining Horse Association Derby. She has also earned her Youth Superior and Champion awards through AQHA. Recently, Carbone was selected to perform at the 2011 FEI World Equestrian games in Kentucky.

In addition to riding, Carbone enjoys writing, drawing, painting, traveling and volunteering.

Added Meneely, "We are extremely excited to have Michelina join our team and look forward to her contribution as a UGA Equestrian Team Member! She has a tremendous amount of arena presence and drive and I am honored to have her join Bulldog Nation."
