| Mark Richt has 99 career wins as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs. Two other head coaches have won over 100 games for the Dawgs: Vince Dooley (201) and Wallace Butts (140). With a victory over Tennessee this weekend, Coach Richt would reach 100 faster than any other Georgia football coach. (this is Richt's 11th season and 136th career game)

(Arkansas has 1 but they were not in the SEC then... also Auburn has 1 as well, but they had 2 coaches with 99 including former Georgia player Pat Dye... Coach Dye had a chance to win 100 but with 3 games left, he tied Arkansas then he lost his last 2 games... one against the Dawgs and the other Alabama.) Coach Richt is 6-4 all-time against the Tennessee Volunteers. He also has 3 wins in Knoxville. Both of these win totals are the most by any head coach in Georgia football history.
As Georgia faces Tennessee, one storyline that will be said time after time will be Volunteer Head Coach Derek Dooley being the son of former Bulldog Head Coach Vince Dooley. The Dawgs have faced a Dooley twice before as an opposing team head coach and won both times. Last season, Georgia defeated Derek in his first season in Knoxville and in 1971, Vince defeated his brother Bill Dooley when he was the head coach of North Carolina in the Gator Bowl. Once again, looking at the stat sheet from last week, I notice Isaiah Crowell went over 100 yards rushing. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the 3rd time which ties the most by a Bulldog in that category (see my article from 9/30 for complete list). But more importantly what I noticed was after 5 career games, Crowell actually has better stats than another freshman. Now there will never be another Herschel, but its still fun to look at this rushing comparison through first 5 games.
(Now in game 6, Herschel had his highest career rush yard total when he had 283 against Vanderbilt.) Also in an offensive comparison between a freshman and a super standout. Malcolm Mitchell has put together a fine season as well. He leads the Dawgs in receptions and is tied-for-4th in the SEC in that category. But here is what he is done compared to a recent great wide receiver for the Bulldogs. This is what both did receiving wise in their first 5 career games.
One player on offense that is definitely not a freshman is tight end Orson Charles. One of my previous articles, I mentioned that he was climbing the charts on Georgia tight ends under Mark Richt. Now if you look at it updated you will see a name on top or near the top on all the lists.
On defense, Michael Gilliard has certainly made a name for himself. Due to injuries, he found himself as a starting middle linebacker and he hasn't disappointed his team. Gilliard is tied for the lead on the team in tackles with 28 including 2 ½ for loss. He had just 15 tackles in his first 2 seasons (22 games) combined. In his last game against Mississippi State he had a career-high 9 tackles which is more than he had in his entire freshman season (7) or his entire sophomore season (8). Also in the last game both Jarvis Jones and Cornelius Washington each totaled 2 sacks apiece. It was the first time those players have had at least 2 sacks in a game. Several players have done at least that in a game under Mark Richt, but several have done it in more than one game. | The beginning of the article, we talked about milestone victories. Well, the Georgia soccer program will be going for one of its own. If Georgia defeats Mississippi State on Friday or Ole Miss on Sunday (both games at home) the Dawgs will collect win number 200 in its school's history. Georgia has been playing girls soccer since 1995 and has finished with a .500 record or better in 14 of their first 16 seasons. Here is a list of other sports at Georgia and when they got their 200th win in school's history. | Georgia had a big SEC win on Wednesday over Auburn and they look for another win this Friday as they travel to Starkville to play Mississippi State. Both of these teams this week, Georgia has had a lot of success against. Here are the top-5 teams that the Georgia volleyball teams have their most wins against. | Georgia sophomore Campbell Johnson just won the title at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational this week. Johnson, who hails from California has been a Peach State punisher as of late. As of freshman, he was just 5-4 against teams from Georgia (one of the losses came against his teammate Hernus Pieters). This season so far he is a perfect 4-0. | Former Georgia running back Kregg Lumpkin had a big game catching the ball for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the Indianapolis Colts during Monday Night Football. Lumpkin tied a career-high snagging 3 receptions for a career-high 25 yards (20 of those yards, were yards after the reception). The funny thing about the 3 receptions is that the one other time he had that many was his first career game in the NFL back in 2008 vs the Detroit Lions. | We go north of the border to find former Bulldog wide receiver Terrence Edwards. Georgia's all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and TD receptions has had a pretty successful career in the Canadian Football League. Currently he is playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
