MACON, Ga. --- The 16th-ranked Georgia men's golf team stands fifth after one round of the Brickyard Collegiate Championship.
On Friday at Riverside at the Brickyard's par-72, 7,175-yard layout, the Bulldogs fired a 7-over 295. Georgia Tech has the team lead at 8-under 280.
Sophomore Brian Carter paced the Bulldogs with an even-par 72. He is in the group tied for 17th, seven shots behind Georgia Tech's Seth Reeves. Junior Bryden Macpherson and freshman Sepp Straka each signed for a 2-over 74, while junior T.J. Mitchell and freshman Nicholas Reach each carded a 3-over 75.
"We were kind of all over the map today," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We made our share of birdies (13 as a team), but we tended to give them right back. We just never could get any momentum going. We know we've got some work to do, and I'm sure the guys will come out on Saturday ready to get after it."
Playing as individuals, sophomore Michael Cromie and freshman Sam Straka each shot a 4-over 76.
The Brickyard Collegiate Championship will continue on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday. Live scoring and tee times can be found at golfstat.com.
