ATHENS, GA ---- UGA student-athletes will greet groups of children at Barrow Elementary School as part of the `Walk with the Dogs to School' event on Friday morning, Nov. 4.
In conjunction with the Safe Routes To School initiative, Georgia student-athletes will welcome "walking school buses" of Barrow Elementary School students when they arrive.
"Walk With the Bulldogs to School all started when a parent of a student at Barrow, who also happens to be a faculty member here at Georgia, approached us and said that the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) would love to have some student-athletes come over and encourage kids to walk to school when they can," said UGA Athletic Association, Director of CHAMPS/Life Skills Robert Miles. "The kids love to see a Bulldog in a jersey and the parents remember when our student-athletes take time out of their schedule to visit with the kids, so it's a win-win situation for everyone."
