ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia volleyball team will play two Southeastern Conference matches on the road this weekend traveling to Alabama and Ole Miss.
Georgia (9-13, 5-7 SEC) begins the two-match road trip at Alabama (10-13, 3-9 SEC) on Friday at 8 p.m. ET in Foster Auditorium. The Bulldogs then play Ole Miss (6-14, 1-10 SEC) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Gillom Sports Complex.
This weekend's matches will mark the second time the Bulldogs have squared off against both SEC Western Division foes. The first meetings against UA and OM came in Athens in September.
In the first meeting with Alabama, the Crimson Tide won by a score of 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 30-28, 25-22), but UGA still leads the all-time UGA-UA series, 21-19. Kayla Fitterer led the Crimson Tide in the contest with a match-best 21 kills and was supported by Cortney Warren and Leigh Moyer with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Andrea McQuaid nearly finished with a triple-double with 25 assists, 12 digs and seven kills.
Georgia's top performances against Alabama came from sophomore outside hitter Brittany Northcutt, senior middle blocker Elizabeth Reid and senior setter Kathleen Gates. Northcutt had a team-best 15 kills while Reid notched a Georgia career-best 12 kills on a career-best .611 hitting percentage. Gates tallied a then season-best 54 assists, which raised her career assist total to 4,061, moving her to fifth all-time at UGA.
In the first meeting with Ole Miss, the Bulldogs won 3-1 (13-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22) to increase their all-time lead over the Rebels to 37-13. In that match, Gates posted her fourth double-double of the season with 39 assists and 11 digs, and she became only the sixth player in school history to eclipse 4,000 career assists. Her career total now stands at 4,393.
Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Kathleen Luft also notched a double-double against the Rebels with 11 kills and 10 digs, and junior right side hitter Briana Bahr provided a match-best 13 kills on a .375 clip.
The top performances from Ole Miss came from Allegra Wells with 10 kills and Morgan Springer with 11 digs.
