Here are some more notes, nuggets and tidbits of information all things Georgia Bulldogs, statistically speaking of course. For the most complete information on a specific upcoming game please checkout the individual sport and game you are looking for on www.georgiadogs.com.

And now for the extra stuff...
FOOTBALL
Congrats to Mark Richt winning his 100th game last week against Tennessee. Now if he wants to tie or even break the win record for Georgia's all-time coach Vince Dooley, at his current pace it won't happen to the year, 2021 or 2022. Now if he wants to pass another one of his former mentors, Bobby Bowden, he will have to wait around to the year 2040. Now let's look at things more relevant.

Vanderbilt is one of the teams that Georgia has had the most success against. In 71 prior meetings, the Bulldogs are 51-18-2 and head coach Mark Richt is 9-1 in his 10 encounters. The Dawgs have been facing the Dores since 1893. In fact, Vandy was Georgia's 4th ever opponent (Mercer, Auburn, Georgia Tech and then Vanderbilt). Georgia lost that first game and at one time Vanderbilt was leading the series 8-1-1, but soon after the Bulldogs took over. Here are the top 5 teams that Georgia has the most wins against all-time.

Georgia Tech 61
Auburn 52
Vanderbilt 51
Kentucky 50
Florida 47

Like I showed everyone the years that Georgia won a pair of Magnolia battles against Mississippi teams in a previous article, here are the years that Georgia won both battles against the two teams from Tennessee (Tennessee and Vanderbilt).

1924 2002
1980 2003
1981 2005
1988 2008
2000 2010
2001

Statistically, running back Isaiah Crowell had his lowest rushing yard output last week vs Tennessee, but also statistically he had his highest output of rushing touchdowns when he had 2. Here is the list of players that have scored 2 or more rushing touchdowns in a game under Mark Richt and how many games they did it.

Knowshon Moreno 8 Michael Cooper 1
Musa Smith 5 Brannan Southerland 1
Thomas Brown 3 J.T. Wall 1
Caleb King 3 Danny Ware 1
Washaun Ealey 3 Aaron Murray 1
Verron Haynes 2 Carlton Thomas 1
Isaiah Crowell 1

After freshman Malcolm Mitchell notched a career-high 126 receiving yards against Tennessee, it marked the 47th time that a Georgia player gained 100 yards or more receiving in a game under Mark Richt. The way he is playing, he should get a lot more. Here are the players who reached this goal and how many games they have done it. (remember this is just in their games under Mark Richt, it does not count the ones before then)

Fred Gibson 11 Tyson Browning 1
A.J. Green 7 Damien Gary 1
Terrence Edwards 6 Kenneth Harris 1
Mohamed Massaquoi 5 Michael Johnson 1
Reggie Brown 3 Bryan McClendon 1
Kris Durham 2 Randy McMichael 1
Orson Charles 2 Martrez Milner 1
Tavarres King 2 Leonard Pope 1
Malcolm Mitchell 1

Mitchell was injured on his big play that totaled 71 yards. Those yards he racked up made it the 5th biggest pass play under Mark Richt. Here are the top-5

Tyson Browning 2003 at LSU 93 yards (tied for longest pass play in school's history)
Mohamed Massaquoi 2007 vs Florida 84 yards
Fred Gibson 2004 at Arkansas 79 yards
Mohamed Massaquoi 2008 at Kentucky 78 yards
Malcolm Mitchell 2011 at Tennessee 71 yards

(the top 4 all went for touchdowns... Mitchell also has the 6th highest, but that too did not go for a TD)

In the last game, Georgia was very successful in an area. That area being 4th down conversions. In fact, the Bulldogs were a perfect 3-for-3 on 4th down. Here are the times that Georgia has had 3 4th down conversions made under Mark Richt and what they were in both 3rd down and 4th down during the game.

3rd down conversions 4th down conversions
2001 vs Florida 4-16 3-6
2005 vs Kentucky 0-10 3-4
2011 at Tennessee 3-12 3-3

On defense, Georgia's rush defense was amazing. Todd Grantham's crew held the Volunteers to -21 rush yards on 23 attempts. In fact in their last 4 contests, the Bulldogs defense has held their opponents to a grand total of 132 yards on 110 attempts or 1.2 yards per attempt. The -21 yards on the ground was the 3rd fewest allowed all-time by a Bulldog team and the fewest under Mark Richt. Here are the 5 best.

1999 vs Kentucky -50
1967 vs VMI -49
2011 at Tennessee -21
1958 vs The Citadel -20
2009 vs Tennessee Tech -13

Leading the way on defense was Michael Gilliard, the junior led the Dawgs in tackles for the 4th straight game. He also reached double-digits for the first time ever when he notched 12. For his efforts he won his first career SEC Defense Player of the Week Award. Only 6 players under Mark Richt have ever won this award more than once. Here are those players and the times they won the award.

David Pollack 5
Geno Atkins 2
Justin Houston 2
Charles Johnson 2
Sean Jones 2
Quentin Moses 2

Blair Walsh won the honors for the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week. It was the first time he won the award, but he is the 3rd different kicker/punter to win this award under Mark Richt. The other two are Billy Bennett who won it 3 times and Gordon Ely-Kelso who won it twice.
VOLLEYBALL
The Georgia volleyball team has won 4 of their last 6 matches to even up their conference record to 4 wins and 4 losses. In 3 of those 4 wins, Georgia lost the first set, then rallied back for the victory. Those 3 times are the only 3 times it has happened so far this year. Lizzy Stemke and the team rather win in straight sets, but if they are forced to come from behind they will certainly try. Here are the amount of times a Georgia team has lost the opening set and come back to win since 2000 and a reminder there are at least 12 more matches on the Bulldog schedule.

2000 2 times 2006 1 time
2001 3 times 2007 2 times
2002 3 times 2008 3 times
2003 1 time 2009 7 times
2004 5 times 2010 1 time
2005 3 times 2011 3 times

SOCCER
Sophomore Alexa Newfield won the SEC Player of the Week Award for the 2nd time this season and for her 3rd time during her short career. Last week she scored 2 goals and added 2 assists. This season, she is tied for the SEC lead with 11 goals and with the 8 goals she had last year she has a total of 19. There are at least 6 more games on the schedule this season and with that, Newfield will have great chances to increase her goal total. Newfield is currently 2nd all-time for most goals by a Bulldog during their freshman and sophomore seasons combined. Here are the top 3.

Carrie Patterson 2006-07 25 goals
Alexa Newfield 2010-11 19 goals
Tricia McKee 2001-02 15 goals

BULLDOGS IN THE NFL
Hines Ward had his first 2 touchdown receptions of the season and now has 85 for his career. He is currently tied for 13th all-time with that impressive amount. He is tied with Pro Football Hall of Famers Lance Alworth and Paul Warfield. He is also 2nd on the active list (including players that have played this season). Here are the top 5 on the active list.

Tony Gonzalez 92
Hines Ward 85
Reggie Wayne 70
Antonio Gates 69
Larry Fitzgerald 67

(Hines Ward also has 1 career TD rush in the NFL. He did that in a 2004 game with the Eagles)

Asher Allen had his first interception of the season as his Minnesota Vikings defeated the Arizona Cardinals. It was the 4th career pick for the cornerback from Tucker, Georgia. Here are the games he had all of his interceptions and the unlucky quarterback that threw the pass.

2009 vs Seahawks Matt Hasselbeck
2010 vs Giants Eli Manning
2010 vs Bears Jay Cutler
2011 vs Cardinals Kevin Kolb

BULLDOGS IN PRO GOLF (PGA)
Former Bulldog Chris Kirk currently sits in 44th place on the PGA Tour money standings with just over $1.8 million in earnings. This week he will be playing at the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Georgia. It is a location where Kirk is very familiar with. It is the location where Georgia played the SEC Championships each season while Kirk was playing for the red and black. While the team won the SECs twice while he was there, his best individual finish was 3rd during his junior season of 2006.

Speaking of golf, this past Monday was the 20th anniversary of former Bulldog Chip Beck's amazing 59. In 1991, during the 3rd round of the Las Vegas Invitational, he became the 2nd player ever to shoot that incredible low score. During the round he shot 5 pars and knocked in 13 birdies. Currently there are only 5 PGA golfers in history to have had accomplish this feat.
HERSCHEL VS VANDERBILT
For my last stat I look at what the great Herschel Walker did in his 3 games against the Commodores. His career-high in rush yards in a game happened against Vanderbilt when he exploded for 283 yards in his freshman season. Here are his career totals against the gang from Nashville.

Rushes Yards TD Rushes First Down Runs 10+yd Runs
1980 23 283 3 10 7
1981 39 188 2 16 9
1982 38 172 1 8 4
Total 100 643 6 34 20
