ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Florida Gulf Coast in the Bulldog Invitational at the Ramsey Student Center on Saturday afternoon.

Georgia defeated Florida Gulf Coast with set scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18 to improve to 7-2 on the year while the Eagles fell to 2-8.

The Bulldog Invitational will conclude with two more matches on Saturday evening. FGCU returns to the court at 4:30 p.m. against No. 9 Washington, and the final match of the tournament then features in-states rivals Georgia and Georgia Tech with first serve slated for 7 p.m.

On Saturday afternoon, Georgia recorded a .346 team hitting percentage en route to the victory over FGCU. The offensive attacked was paced by junior setter Kathleen Gates' 37 assists while senior middle hitter Valentina Gonzalez provided a match-best 13 kills on a .522 clip. Freshman outside hitter Brittany Northcutt notched a solid performance from the offensive side of the net as well with 11 kills on a .435 mark.

Defensively, the Bulldogs held an edge in blocking at 9.0 compared to the Eagles 3.0 including a team-best four stops from junior middle hitter Ann Dylla. Senior Erika Clark paced the Dogs in digs with 11.

In Saturday's first match of the tournament, Washington defeated Georgia Tech, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-19). The Huskies stand 2-0 in the Bulldog Invitational while both Georgia and Georgia Tech are 1-1. FGCU is 0-2 in Athens.

Admission is free to all regular season matches in the Ramsey Student Center and live stats for all matches will be available on www.georgiadogs.com while live video will also be available for the Georgia-Georgia Tech match.
