ATHENS ----- Athens resident Katie Crump, a talented riding prospect in the Hunt Seat disciplines, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend UGA and ride next season for the Bulldogs, head coach Meghan Boenig announced Wednesday.
Crump is a recent graduate of Athens Academy and has an extensive background of riding and showing competitively. "We are very excited to have Katie joining our program," Boenig said. "She has grown up in Athens and has been raised a Bulldog. She has a great foundation in riding and we're looking forward to her contributions to the team next year and beyond."
Crump has qualified and competed at such prestigious shows as the ASPCA Maclay Regionals, the USEF Medal Finals and the USET Show Jumping Talent Search. In 2008, she was awarded the USET Bronze Medal. Additionally, she also has had placings at the 2010 "Horse Shows in the Sun (HITS) Ocala winter circuit in the Hunters & Jumpers.
Crump becomes the seventh high school senior to sign with the Georgia program during the spring signing period, which ended May 19. She joins Jaclyn Beckley, a Western rider from Cumming; Kelsey Thatcher, a decorated Hunt Seat prospect from South Jordan, Utah; Jackie Hoyt, a Western rider from Manlius, N.Y.; Olivia Dorey, a Hunt Seat rider from Sudbury, Mass.; McKenzie Lantz, a reiner from Fremont, Mich., and Julia Hemingway, a Hunt Seat rider from Alpharetta, all of whom signed earlier this month. Two other high school seniors, Isabel Jolicoeur of Wellington, Fla., and Abby O'Mara of Rumson, N.J., signed with the Bulldogs last November.
