Georgia's Henley Named First-Team All-American

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Russell Henley has been chosen as a First-Team All-American, according to an announcement Friday by PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Henley is Georgia's first First-Team All-American since Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd earned the distinction in 2007. Henley is the 22nd First-Team All-American in school history.
Henley was named a Second-Team All-American in both 2008 and 2009.
Joining Henley as First-Team All-Americans are John Chin of UC Irvine, Texas Tech's Nils Floren, Dustin Garza of Wichita State, Scott Langley of Illinois, Texas A&M's Andrea Pavan, Jonathan Randolph of Mississippi, Washington's Nick Taylor, Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State, Oregon State's Diego Velasquez and Oregon's Eugene Wong.
Henley, a junior from Macon finished 18th at the NCAA Championships at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., on Thursday. Henley ended the year ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. He is a leading contender for National Player of the Year honors, which will be announced next week.
Henley posted four wins this season, boosting him to six for his career - one shy of Kirk's school record of seven. He also moved up Georgia's record book for single-season top-10 finishes (fourth with eight), career top-10s (fifth with 19) and single-season scoring average (ninth at 71.43).
Henley was named the SEC Player of the Year and to the All-SEC First Team after earning individual medalist honors at the conference tournament. He also was chosen for the PING All-Southeast Region Team by the GCAA.
Henley was one of the three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award, he was chosen as the National Amateur of the Month for April by the Southern Golf Association and he was picked to play for Team USA in the Palmer Cup in Northern Ireland this summer.
