Dog Treats: Dowdle's Take On Recruiting

Given the attendance at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall on National Signing Day each year, it has come to the attention of the Bulldog Nation that recruiting is fairly important to the success of the football program.

Well, trust me on this: that fact has not escaped the football coaches from the offices one floor down either. In fact, they may be bigger fans of recruiting than the hundreds who gather to await the official word on signees. And now that very same coaching staff is making it clear that they not only treasure recruiting for Georgia....they treasure recruiting G-E-O-R-G-I-A.

For the last couple of weeks, the UGA football staff has been on the road selling Georgia football in a market where they have a very attentive audience...the state of Georgia.

Bulldog football has always had a great resource with this state turning out a higher number of quality players compared to other states in the Deep South. But now the numbers speak for themselves. There are now more players from the state of Georgia appearing on rosters in the SEC than any other state. Case closed!

For that reason the challenge for the Bulldog staff is obvious. Find the top tier talent that can best represent UGA....and go get 'em!

Just this week, Coach Mark Richt reiterated that goal to me, and explained in detail how his staff has been hard at it for the past few weeks.

Richt made it clear that elite players from other states will still be on the radar (lest we forget Moreno from New Jersey...Stafford from Texas...A.J. Green from South Carolina) but they will have to be truly special players.

The success of Georgia football has always been, and will always be, rooted in the football-rich red clay of Georgia, and this coaching staff is going out of its way right now to make sure that all in this state know it. GO DAWGS!
