Lantz Signs with Bulldogs

ATHENS ----- McKenzie Lantz, a talented Western rider from Fremont, Mich., has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend UGA and compete in Equestrian for the three-time defending national champions, head coach Meghan Boenig announced Tuesday afternoon.
Lantz is currently a senior at Fremont High School, where she also participated on the Packers' volleyball and basketball squads. She's made quite a name for herself, however, as a decorated reiner in the sport of Equestrian.
"McKenzie is our most accomplished Western reining recruit and we're very much looking forward to having her join the program," Boenig said. "She comes from a family that rides and trains horses professionally; therefore, she's had to learn how to ride everything. As a result, she has exceptional feel and effectiveness when she's on a horse. I believe she'll be an incredible asset to our program, as a rider, teammate and a student-athlete."
Over the past nine years, Lantz has competed on 15 different horses in national events sanctioned by the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). She's posted multiple Top 10 showings in those events. She was also a 2008 US Equestrian Federation reserve champion, multiple winner at the Year-End Michigan Reining Horse Association awards and last year she tied for Bronze in individual at the 2009 North American Young Riders championships in Lexington, Ky. Lantz was also part of the winning North Central team at the 2009 North American Young Rider Reining Championships.
Lantz becomes the second high school senior to sign with the Georgia program during the spring signing period, which ends May 19. She joins Julia Hemingway, a Hunt Seat rider from Alpharetta, who signed earlier this month. Two other high school seniors, Isabel Jolicoeur of Wellington, Fla., and Abby O'Mara of Rumson, N.J., signed with the Bulldogs last November.
