Howard Blog: Post Spring Depth Chart

April 23, 2010 | Football

The post spring depth chart is out for the Bulldogs. Does anything surprise you? A few names were not placed in the depths due to injury, like Caleb King, Fred Munzenmaier and Trinton Sturdivant, but are expected to be ready to go when pre-season camp begins in August. I really like what the Dogs have at TE with Orson Charles, Aron White, Bruce Figgins and Arthur Lynch. Charles had a very nice rookie season while White is established as a viable option. Figgins, who has the most size at the position, hopes to be on the field a lot after missing last season and Arthur Lynch, at 6'5" and 250 lbs, showed his ability with a fine catch and score in the G-Day game as he caught the ball over the middle, bounced off tacklers and angled his way into the endzone.

Competition makes us all better and now the Dogs' quarterbacks are minus one competitor and the position is thinner as RFr. Aaron Murray and Jr. Logan Gray head into pre-season camp ranked 1-2. Incoming freshman Hutson Mason will get his first taste of college football in a few months as well.

Washaun Ealey and Caleb King should give Georgia some good punch at running back with the shifty Carlton Thomas also factoring in the mix. Georgia is deep at fullback... not so deep at flanker with A.J. Green and Rantavious Wooten listed 1-2 among the scholarship guys. At split end, Tavarres King, Kris Durham and Marlon Brown are 1-2-3 in the rotation.

The first team offensive line is experienced but the back-ups are very young.

Georgia's defense has a lot of fresh faces on the post spring depth chart. Among the guys listed at #1 on the defensive front, only Demarcus Dobbs is a returning starter and a senior. Darryl Gamble, Cornelius Washington, Justin Houston, Akeem Dent and Christian Robinson all had a solid spring for the Dogs and will head up the linebacking corps. The secondary has to replace 3 starters. Vance Cuff and Brandon Boykin are the #1 corners coming out of spring practice while Nick Williams and Bacarri Rambo are the safeties right now.

The Bulldog punter/kicker combo with Drew Butler and Blair Walsh was the best in the nation last season and could be again this year.

Now, let's have a "quiet" off season. 135 days will be here before you know it.

Go Dawgs!
