FAST FACTS ON THE BULLDOGS
Playing .500 Ball: In the David Perno era, Georgia annually plays one of the nation’s toughest schedules. Before Southeastern Conference action begins Friday, Georgia will have played nine road games out of its first 17 including a three-game set at #6 Florida State, a non-conference clash with #28 Alabama at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala., and its annual trip to Atlanta against rival Georgia Tech (12-1), who is currently ranked #3. Georgia will face the Yellow Jackets two more times in 2010 (April 14 in Athens; April 27 at Turner Field). Georgia leads the all-time series 110-90 dating back to 1950. Perno is 15-13 versus Tech.

Georgia stands at 8-8 and looks to do the following things to contend in the SEC.
1. Get Healthy: Georgia has yet to play a game this year with its projected starting infield:
1B: Chase Davidson: (Missed 9 games: 1st 5 due to elbow; Last 4 due to ankle)
2B: Levi Hyams: (Missed 12 games: 1st 6 due to team suspension; 6 due to back injury)
SS: Kyle Farmer: (Missed 10 games: Broken Hamate bone in left wrist, missed last 10 games)
3B: Colby May: Had to fill in around the diamond, Started all 16 games (11-3B, 4-SS, 1-2B)
2: Improve Starting Pitching: Georgia’s top three starters are a combined 4-3, 7.40 ERA in 12 starts
3. Reduce Mistakes: Georgia has been picked off seven times and thrown 20 wild pitches
4. Stay the Course: Georgia’s starting nine features all freshmen and sophomores

Pitching Matchup:
Freshman left-hander Blake Dieterich, a native of Winter Garden, Fla., will make his first career start. Dietrich (0-1 ,6.14) has made six relief appearances on the year (7.1 IP, 8H, 7R, 4BB 8K, Opp. BA: 276).

Tech Probable Starter: Mark Pope, So., RHP, 1-0, 0.00 (6 IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 7K)

Shipman Bolsters Lineup:

Freshman 1B Robert Shipman has taken advantage of some recent playing time with the injury to sophomore Chase Davidson. The 6-2, 230-pound native of Quitman, Ga. who joined the team in January, is fast becoming a fan favorite at Foley Field. Here’s what he did last week in four games.

*Batted .538 (7-for-13) with five runs scored, three home runs and six RBI as Georgia went 2-2
*Hit .500 (5-for-10) in the Siena series including hitting the first three home runs of his career
*Played flawless defense at first base, registering 24 putouts and turned one unassisted DP
*Overall batting .458-3-10 with 7 BB in 11 games including 6 starts, 1.000 FLDG% in 53 total chances

Verdin Enjoying Solid Start:

Before the 2010 campaign began, head coach David Perno tabbed sophomore RF Peter Verdin as the Bulldog most likely to have a breakout season. So far, Verdin has done just that, leading the team with five home runs and six stolen bases and ranks as the co-leader in RBI with 14.

Patient Taylor Continues As RBI Leader:
Sophomore LF Johnathan Taylor along with sophomore RF Peter Verdin share the team lead in RBI with 14. Taylor serves as the leadoff hitter. Last year in 123 at bats, Taylor hit .309 with 10 RBI. He is off to a great start in 2010, batting .333 with a a 4.94 OB% and an SEC-leading 18 walks. Also, he has displayed a stronger arm with 20 putouts and 1 assist.

Two-Way Moseley:

Freshman Cooper Moseley has been a two-way player for the Bulldogs in the first part of the season, seeing time as relief pitcher and second baseman. He is 0-0 with a 6.14 ERA in six outings and played in five games with four starts at second base. He is batting .200 with one home run. He is one of those rare hitters who doesn’t use batting gloves. In the series finale with Siena Sunday, Moseley started at second and then came in to pitch in the ninth. It marked the first time he did both in a game. He is the first bona fide two-way player for the Bulldogs since outfielder/pitcher Chris Crawford (1996-99).
