ATHENS, Ga. --- It stopped short of a Winter Wonderland, but part of the Georgia football team's Liberty Bowl practice on Wednesday took place under snow flurries.

The Bulldogs had a two-hour session on the Woodruff Practice Fields on Wednesday, which was the last day for final exams. About 20 minutes into the practice, large snowflakes began to fall. For most of the rest of the practice, the precipitation was limited to a light mist.

Afterward, Georgia coach Mark Richt was asked about both the flurries and the practice.

"I heard a few of the guys say they had never practiced in snow before," Richt said. "It wasn't like it was enough to stick on the ground, but it was kind of neat. The best thing I can say about today was it was a start. We've got a long way to go before we're ready to take on UCF, but it was a good start."

The Bulldogs (6-6) held their second of eight practice days before taking off for Christmas in preparation for the Dec. 31 bowl game against the 24th-ranked UCF Knights (10-3). The Bulldogs will reconvene in Memphis, Tenn., for final preparations starting on Dec. 26.

Earlier on Wednesday, Richt discussed the Knights during a press conference.

"I have been watching film (of UCF) on my own," Richt said. "I videotaped their championship game. UCF is a very, very good football team. Coach (George) O'Leary, as we all know, is an outstanding coach. He's done a beautiful job with their program. When you are 6-6 and playing in a bowl, you kind of hope you are playing a 6-6 team. We are playing a 10-3 team. We are playing a championship team. It is going to be a great challenge for us. The good news is they are a top-25 ranked team. They are a championship team and we are going to have a chance to beat a very good football team."

Georgia is making its 14th consecutive bowl appearance, and it ranks as one of the top five bowl teams of all-time in wins and appearances. Georgia is 26-16-3 all-time in bowls, including 7-2 under Richt.

The Liberty Bowl will be played on Dec. 31 with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
