ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs (4-5, 3-4 SEC) practiced for roughly two and a half hours in fulls pads on Tuesday to prepare for this weekend's game with Idaho State (1-7, 0-6 Big Sky) at Sanford Stadium.
Drew Butler will serve as special teams captain against ISU. |
The Bulldogs moved the session up an hour earlier than usual due to academic commitments.
"A lot of the guys had an exam so we wanted to make sure we had the time to get our work in," Richt said.
Richt discussed Saturday's game and playing a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) program earlier in the afternoon at the Bulldogs' weekly press conference.
"They have played some really outstanding BCS conference teams over the last couple of years," Richt said. "I'm sure the revenue that they will generate from it is part of the reason while they'll come that far. I'm sure it makes sense for them financially."
During head coach John Zamberlin's three-plus seasons in Pocatello, the Bengals have faced Arizona State, Boise State, Oklahoma and Oregon State.
Richt also said an occasional FCS foe is practical considering the rigors of SEC play.
"I know that every time you play a BCS conference team it does take a lot of energy, it takes a lot of emotion," Richt said. "Not to say this won't, but if every single out-of-conference game was a BSC opponent, we know our league is rough enough as it is, so I don't know if we need to be doing that."
Kickoff is set for 12:35 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised by WSB TV in Atlanta. The contest also will be available via ESPN GamePlan everywhere except the Atlanta demographic, as well as on ESPN3.com.
