Bulldogs Open In Seventh In Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. --- The No. 7-ranked Georgia men’s golf team is tied for seventh place after one round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon.

On Friday at the Olympia Fields Country Club North Course, the Bulldogs shot a 14-over-par 294. Georgia is eight shots behind Northwestern (6-over 286) and is tied with Florida.

Freshman Brian Carter paced the Bulldogs with a loop of even-par 70 on Friday. Playing in just his second collegiate tournament, Carter is tied for fifth individually, two shots behind Northwestern’s Eric Chun, Florida State’s Seath Lauer and Arizona State’s Scott Pinckney.

Georgia also got a 1-over 71 from junior Harris English (good enough for 10th), a 4-over 74 from junior Russell Henley and a 9-over 79 from junior Rob Bennett. Redshirt freshman T.J. Mitchell had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 10-over 80.
