September 17, 2009 | General

The 2009-10 academic year is in full-swing and that means many of your favorite Bulldog teams are in action every weekend. It's near-impossible to keep up with all the news all the time, but we want to keep fans as up-to-date as possible. Hopefully these quick summaries of happenings in the world of Georgia sports will keep you up to speed.

HOME EVENTS

Men's Tennis Hosts Southern Intercollegiate Championships
Dan Magill Tennis Complex - Athens, Ga.

After making it to the NCAA quarterfinals last year, the men's tennis team looks to get this season off to a good start in Athens. They play host to the 42nd annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships this weekend, which will take place at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. This is the oldest fall college tennis tournament in America and will feature close to 200 participants from 32 schools. The Bulldogs will have eight players competing in the tournament. Head coach Manuel Diaz says the team's work ethic has been strong so far this fall, and everyone is looking forward to match play.

Diaz and the team are looking for a strong showing from the fans this weekend and throughout the season. Ideally, crowds will peak when Georgia hosts the 2010 NCAA Tennis Championships in May. Attendance to this weekend's tournament is free. Live video will also be available here on Georgiadogs.com (see Live Events page).

Equestrian: Texas Christian & Southern Methodist
UGA Equestrian Complex - Bishop, Ga.

That this program has only been in existence for seven years only makes it more astounding that they have earned four national championships, including the last two. The Bulldog riders get back to the grind this weekend as they face off against Texas Christian, who finished second in last year's Western National Championship, on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and take on Southern Methodist on Sunday at noon.

Head coach Meghan Boenig says her team is prepared to defend their title. With the help of Georgia's first-ever national individual champion Sarah Locker and new Western assistant coach Jimmy Frebes, they are certainly on their way.

Attendance to this weekend's meet is free.

Friday: C.A.V.E. - Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Sunday: Newell-Grissom Building - Starkville, Miss.

The volleyball Dawgs are on a six-match winning streak and hope to extend that streak into SEC play this weekend. The Bulldogs won 10 SEC matches in 2008, the most by a Georgia team since 2003. With matches against Alabama and Mississippi State, have a chance to get this year's slate off to a strong start.

Undefeated Bulldogs Head To Clemson For Friday Meeting
Riggs Field - Clemson, S.C.

The Bulldogs recently attained their first top 10 ranking in program history, moving to No. 8 in the latest Soccer America poll. Georgia is one of 20 teams in Division I without a loss, and they'll look to continue their unbeaten record this weekend against ACC rival Clemson, the second game in a six-game road trip.

Having only allowed three goals in 2009, it looks like the Bulldog defense is one of team's most admirable attributes. The offense is balanced, with nine different players contributing goals.

Clemson is just a short drive from Athens or Atlanta, so get out and support the Bulldogs on the road.
