Statistically Speaking takes a deeper look at the numbers that tell the story beyond just points, touchdowns and goals. Taking a closer look at the numbers can provide insights that fans may never have noticed. Georgiadogs.com's Dave McMahon gives us some insight into all of Georgia's varsity sports in this weekly column.
Football
Under Mark Richt, the Bulldogs' defense has been very impressive against the South Carolina Gamecocks, Saturday's opponent. South Carolina has also been shutout 11 times by the Bulldogs, with the last time happening in 2006.

Two of the bright spots of last week's game against Oklahoma State were Blair Walsh and Drew Butler, as both had career-highs. Blair Walsh nailed a 53-yard field goal and now has 3 50-yard field goals. Under Mark Richt, that is tied for the second most by a kicker (Brandon Coutu - 6; Blair Walsh - 3; Billy Bennett - 3).
The Bulldogs have made 12 50-yard field goals since 2001, the 5th most by any team in Division I (FBS).

Tennis
Former 4-time All-America John Isner is currently ranked 55th in the world and will get better after an impressive showing in the US Open where he was the final american male in the field when he was eliminated in the 4th round. In the third round, Isner defeated fifth-seed Andy Roddick in 5 sets. In that 3rd round match, Isner served the third most aces in any US Open match
in history.

Another former tennis Bulldog is Travis Parrott. Parrott and Carly Gullickson (who is the sister of current tennis Bulldog Chelsey Gullickson) won the 2009 US Open in mixed doubles on Thursday.

Soccer
The Soccer team is off to an impressive 4-0-1 start and has only allowed 1 goal this season in 5 games, which is one of the most impressive defensive starts in Georgia history.

Senior Carrie Patterson, Georgia's all-time leader in goals, is off to a great start in 2009. She has scored four so far this season, which, combined with her 3 assists, gives her 11 points this year. After 5 games, she has an impressive 2.2 points per game which is the highest she has ever had in a season. There is a long way to go, but this is a very strong start for her.

Volleyball
Georgia volleyball is off to an impressive start as well and is 5-2 on the season. Part of their success is due to an increase in kill percentage compared to last year's numbers.
