June 09, 2009 | Softball
KISSIMMEE, Fla. Kristin Schnake, a recent graduate from the University of Georgia and the Bulldog softball program, has signed a professional contract to play for the USSSA Pride.
The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Pride is the newest member of the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF). The Pride replaced the Washington Glory in the NPF in May of 2009. Coached by J.Y. Davis, the Pride will open their season on Wednesday in Chicago versus the Chicago Bandits.
"It's a great opportunity," Schnake said about joining the Pride. "I'm really excited to play and learn from a lot of talented people."
A native of Richview, Ill, Schnake helped lead the Bulldogs to their first-ever Women's College World Series appearance in 2009. She finished the season batting .321 with five home runs, 30 runs-batted in and 52 runs scored while also providing 12 sacrifice hits and stealing a perfect 16-of-16 bases. The shortstop on the Southeastern Conference's All-Defensive Team, Schnake helped Georgia to a school-record and national-best fielding percentage of .981. Schnake finished her career at Georgia ranked fourth in assists (347), fifth in sacrifice hits (33) and tied 10th in stolen bases (42).
