Bulldog Riders Resume Season

It's been a long and busy two-plus months for the Georgia Equestrian team, which last competed in a 3-match swing through Texas over the third weekend in November. The Bulldogs will resume their 2008-09 season in a pair of competitions this Saturday and Sunday, facing Fresno State and New Mexico State at Fresno, Calif.
Georgia and Fresno State have already faced off once this season, on Sept. 21 in Athens. The homestanding Bulldogs prevailed that day, but not by a dominant margin. The two teams rode to a 5-5 deadlock in Hunt Seat events. On the strength of a 5-0 effort in reining, Georgia won the meet by taking a 7-3 decision in the Western events.
Georgia and New Mexico State have met just once previously in an 11-6 Bulldog victory at Las Cruces early in the 2006-07 season.
"We're really looking forward to getting this part of the season started," said Georgia coach Meghan Boenig. "Lots of things have happened since November. The girls have been working hard and getting ready, so this should be a good competition for us."
The competition format for this weekend's 3-team gathering will mirror that of the Varsity EQ National Championships. Two teams will face off in one discipline on Saturday, and another on Sunday, and vice versa for the other two-way matchup.
Georgia enters the Spring portion of its schedule at 6-3 overall, 1-1 in SEC competition. The Bulldogs' trip through Texas produced a 1-2 result, including a win at Baylor and losses to TCU and SMU.
