Georgia Riders Host Fresno State

Georgia returns to its own competition ring Friday afternoon when it plays host to Fresno State at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.
The host Bulldogs (4-1), ranked 2nd in the latest Varsity Equestrian coaches' poll, last competed on Oct. 23, when they defeated SEC rival South Carolina by a 12-8 score. The visiting Bulldogs have competed just three times thus far this season, defeating New Mexico State in their opener and dropping consecutive meets in the Lone Star State to TCU and Texas A&M.
Nonetheless, Georgia expects a close competition with the 10th-rated Bulldogs. "I know that Fresno will come here hungry and prepared to win," UGA coach Meghan Boenig said. "We have to treat every single meet like it's Nationals. That means that we need to go into each and every ride, expecting to win."
Boenig also views the Fresno State meet as part of her team's big picture. "We also want this meet to set a positive tone for next week, which will be a big competition against another SEC rival," she said. Georgia concludes the fall portion of its schedule on Nov. 13 at home against top-ranked Auburn.
Underclassmen continue to pace Georgia's performance during the early stretches of the season. In the South Carolina win, freshmen Carly Anthony, Grace Rogers and Becca Haaland, as well as sophomores Emma Lipman and Michelle Morris carried the day with winning rides. All five will be in action Friday against Fresno State.
The meet starts at 3:00 p.m., and there is no admission charge. Free 2009 Georgia Equestrian schedule magnets will be given away to the first 100 fans in attendance. Also, any fan that dresses up like a cowboy or cowgirl will be a free UGA Equestrian keychain. Finally, fans will have the opportunity to win prizes for correctly answering trivia questions pertaining to UGA Equestrian.
