| Valentina Gonzalez is a junior from Monterey, Mexico and came all the way to Athens, Georgia to play for the UGA Volleyball team. The 6 foot tall middle hitter wears the number 18 jersey, and is in her third season with the UGA Volleyball team. Last season, Valentina excelled in the Georgia Bulldog Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She also helped the Bulldogs win the SEC Coaches’ Beach Volleyball Championship during the spring. In 2008, she started all 31 matches for the Georgia Volleyball team and played in every single set. That’s a lot of matches! Valentina has more blocks than anyone else on her team, and has the eighth most blocks in school history! When the UGA Volleyball team beat Siena on September 11, 2009, Valentina led her team in blocks. On September 20th, she added 7 more blocks to her total when she helped the Volleyball team beat Mississippi State. Also, she had more kills in that match than anyone else on her team. Valentina recorded eight blocks and twelve kills in the Bulldogs’ win over Western Carolina on September 23. In the Bulldogs match against LSU on September 27, she led the Bulldogs offensively with seven kills. On October 2 versus Arkansas, Valentina increased her total number of kills by six. Head Coach, Joel McCartney, says that Valentina is very “explosive and fast” and thinks that she will do great things this season! With most of the season left to go, expect Valentina to continue to help lead the Georgia Volleyball team to many more victories! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
