UGA Tailback Richard Samuel Undergoes Wrist Surgery Wednesday

University of Georgia freshman tailback Richard Samuel underwent left wrist surgery Wednesday by a hand specialist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia, to repair injured ligaments.
Samuel sustained the injury during the Capital One Bowl in Orlando. After undergoing a series of diagnostic tests and various physician evaluations, it was felt that due to the nature of his injury, he would have the best outcome with a surgical repair versus conservative care with immobilization.
Samuel will be in a wrist cast for three months and have a second surgery at that time to remove surgical hardware, according to Director of Sports Medicine Ron Courson. He will miss spring football practice but is anticipated to be fully recovered by the start of fall season.
