Georgia Volleyball Welcomes Arkansas & Ole Miss This Weekend

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia volleyball team will welcome a pair of Southeastern Conference western division schools, the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Ole Miss Rebels, to the Ramsey Student Center this weekend.

This Week For The Bulldogs:
Friday, Oct. 3 vs. Arkansas at 7 p.m. ET **70’s Theme Night: the first 200 fans will receive a free Georgia volleyball T-shirt**
Sunday, Oct. 5 vs. Ole Miss at 1:30 p.m. ET

Georgia (7-8, 0-4 SEC) will face Arkansas (4-9, 1-2 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. ET and will take on Ole Miss (6-6, 2-1 SEC) on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Admission to all home matches is free. Live stats for both matches will be available online at Georgiadogs.com, and GXtra subscribers can log on for free audio of the contest against Ole Miss.

Georgia has played two matches in its current five-match home stand which will continue this weekend with the contests against Arkansas and Ole Miss before concluding Oct. 8 against LSU. The Bulldogs dropped the first two matches of home stand to Kentucky and Tennessee last weekend, and the two losses were part of a current five-match losing skid the Bulldogs will look to end this weekend.

In the all-time series Arkansas, the Razorbacks lead 13-4 including wins in the last five meetings with Georgia. Both meetings last year went to the five sets. The first meeting in 2007 came in Fayetteville, where Georgia fell down 2-0 after two sets but rallied to force the fifth set. The second meeting came in Athens with Georgia going up 2-0 but Arkansas coming back to win the next three sets. The Bulldogs last win in the series came in 2004.

In the all-time series with Ole Miss, Georgia leads 35-8. The two teams split last year’s meetings. Georgia won the first meeting in Athens, 3-2, while Ole Miss earned a victory in the second meeting in Oxford, 3-0. Over the last ten meetings, Georgia holds a 7-3 edge.

Last Week For The Bulldogs:
Lost to Kentucky, 1-3 (19-25, 18-25, 25-14, 19-25)
Lost to Tennessee, 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 19-25)

Georgia began its five-match home stand with its first Southeastern Conference home match against Kentucky last Friday, falling 3-1 to the Wildcats. The Bulldogs also fell to the Tennessee Lady Volunteers 3-0 last Sunday.

Despite dropping both contests, senior Maria Taylor recorded 24 kills in those two matches to move her onto Georgia’s all-time top-10 list at ninth with 1,535 career kills. Taylor stands to move rapidly up the chart from here as she is just two kills away from eighth, 10 away from seventh and 30 from sixth.

Also standing to move onto the career top-10 lists at Georgia is freshman setter Kathleen Gates. Gates pushed her assists total to 530 last weekend, which stands just 35 assists away from 10th on the career assists chart.
