Bulldogs Get Sneak Peek At NCAA Site

September 26, 2008 | Men's Golf

TOLEDO, Ohio The third-ranked Georgia men’s golf team will swing back into action next week at the 20th annual PING/Golfweek Preview.

The tournament will take place Sunday through Tuesday at the Inverness Club, which will be the site of the NCAA Championship May 27-30, 2009.

One of the premier tournaments in college golf, the Preview features eight teams ranked in the top 10 and 14 ranked in the top 25.

“This is a tournament where we can pick up a lot of valuable information,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “First of all, we get to see Inverness for a practice round and three competitive rounds, and that should be a benefit when the NCAAs roll around. Secondly, we get to see how we measure up against the best teams in the country. We are really looking forward to the challenge. This is the kind of competition our guys thrive on.”

Haack will use a lineup of seniors Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell, junior Hudson Swafford, sophomore Russell Henley and freshman Patrick Reed. Harman, Mitchell, Henley and Reed were in the lineup when the Bulldogs opened the season with a seventh-place showing at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. Henley leads the Bulldogs with a 72.67 scoring average.

Georgia will be making its 11th appearance in the Preview. The Bulldogs won the event in 2000 and 2005, and they have recorded seven top-5 finishes. Harman claimed medalist honors at the 2005 Preview.

The Bulldogs will tee off between 12:50 and 1:30 p.m. in the first round on Sunday with their counterparts from Oklahoma State and Southern Cal. The tee times on Monday and Tuesday will be determined by team standings.

The rest of the field includes Alabama, Arizona State, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kent State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Toledo.
