Georgia vs. Louisville - Post-game Quotes

Game Three: Georgia 9, Louisville 8
Georgia Head Coach David Perno
Opening Statement
“I thought that we did a great job today hanging in there until the ninth inning. Gordon Beckham’s homerun was huge and really got us going.”
On Joshua Fields performance
“There is no concern with Josh, even after today’s performance. He hasn’t pitched in two weeks and he is like a caged animal. He wants to get into the game so bad, and sometimes his extra energy leaves some pitches up. It was great to get him in, get him some work and calm him down.”
On the team’s success when facing elimination
“I hope that we respond when facing elimination. We have to. We have had good effort and passion, and today was the big one to get through, but it doesn’t get any easier after this.”
Georgia Senior Third Baseman, #3 Ryan Peisel
Opening Statement
“Today was one of our best team efforts we have had all year. There was a tremendous amount of energy in the dugout and I hope that we just ride into tomorrow’s game.”
On Gordon Beckham’s homerun
“Emotionally, Gordon’s home run was huge. It gave us the boost that we needed because we were so frustrated not scoring when every inning we seemed to have runners in scoring position. It symbolized it was time to really fight so hard to get what we wanted and I am glad it worked out.”
On his performance the last two days
“The last two days I have been really focused because I never know if it’s the last time that I will put on this Georgia jersey. It’s just the will not to lose and not wanting to put the cleats on for the last time.”
Georgia Junior Shortstop, #6 Gordon Beckham
On breaking out of his hitting slump
“I put a lot of pressure on myself, and a lot of it is not necessary. But today means a lot. I came out here wanting to play loose and have a lot of fun and it worked out.”
Georgia Sophomore Pitcher, #22 Dean Weaver
On his pitching performance
“They were a surprisingly better hitting team than I originally thought. Getting ahead of their batters was the big thing because it allowed me to go to more pitches. I settled down after the first two innings and had a lot better control of my pitches.”
Louisville Head Coach Dan McDonnell
Opening Statement
“You have to give Georgia a lot of credit. They are a heck of a club, and offensively we just couldn’t stop them in the seventh inning. I am real proud of being Big East Champions. It was the first championship in school history. We will remember the two homeruns in the last inning because always being aggressive is our style, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Getting to NCAAs is the goal; it’s just this time it didn’t work out.”
On Georgia’s big seventh inning
“I felt going to B.J. (Rosenberg) was our best option versus (Gordon) Beckham. You have to tip your cap to him. B.J. gave it his best shot, but Gordon got up in the count and hit a good fastball. That is why he is their superstar and their All-American. But it was even more impressive how they all followed hitting right behind him.”
Louisville Junior Shortstop, #2 John Dao
Opening Statement
“This one is tough to take. Going into the postseason you expect a lot, but this one hurts. The seventh inning was a tough one to swallow. Getting after it and being aggressive is our style and today it just didn’t work out.”
