Georgia vs. Lipscomb - Post-game Quotes
May 31, 2008 | General
2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championships
Athens Regional
May 30, 2008
Lipscomb 10, Georgia 7
Lipscomb Head Coach Jeff Forehand
Opening Statement...
“Wow. I don’t know where to start describing how proud I am of our guys. Coming in here versus a team like Georgia all you want is a chance at the end. I didn’t know how to prepare for a regional because we have never been to a regional. I felt confident in our team after getting out of the first inning and battling back and scoring some runs. We really settled in, our pitching got better, we kept our composure and were able to battle back and win this huge game.”
On turning a double play to end the eighth inning...
“The double play in the eighth inning was the turning point of the game and got us out of a huge jam. It gave us a huge mental boost and it was fun to get out of that huge hole and end up winning the game.”
Lipscomb Senior Outfielder, #19 Blake Bratcher
Opening statement...
“Coach (Forehand) stressed to us attacking every inning and having good at-bats. Our seven through nine hitters picked us up today and came through huge. We knew about (Stephen) Dodson throws a lot of fastballs and throws strikes. We knew that and were real aggressive, had a lot of good at-bats and got some big hits. We played teams of this caliber, and after getting through the first inning and getting some runs back we knew we could win this thing.”
Lipscomb Sophomore Pitcher, #15 Rex Brothers
Opening statement...
“I feel confident playing against anybody. I know that we can put up runs and that we pitch really well. My job is to keep us in the game. After the first I settled down, made some good pitches, and kept throwing strikes. The biggest thing was overcoming the mental side and I really felt after the first inning when we came back that we would be fine.”
Georgia Head Coach David Perno
Opening statement...
“I felt that we got off to a good start and were in business after the first inning, but you just have to tip your cap to Lipscomb for battling back and scoring runs. I felt we had a lot of really good at-bats, but we scattered in a few bad innings as well. We did not capitalize on all our opportunities, and we couldn’t find that elusive homerun.”
On falling to the loser’s bracket...
“It takes a team to get out of the losers bracket. Our guys are tough and resilient, and we just have to find a way to win the scoreboard and win the next game. All the little things add up in games like this and now we have to battle back because it is a much bigger game.”
Georgia Senior Third Baseman, #3 Ryan Peisel
Opening statement...
“You have to tip your cap to the Lipscomb team. They came in here, played well, did their thing and even though we started coming back, we just ran out of time.”
Georgia Junior Pitcher, #42 Stephen Dodson
On his performance...
“It was not that I couldn’t relax. I felt confident with my pitches. It was just that they were hitting them. I felt my slider was good. It was just one of those days.”
Georgia Junior Shortstop, #6 Gordon Beckham
On his performance...
“Obviously I am very frustrated with how I am playing and my performance today. I didn’t quit out there today, but it’s frustrating. I feel confident in the cage and in warm ups, but it’s just not translating into the games. Maybe I am not swinging at good pitches, but I need to figure this out if we are going to play on Sunday.”
