Naoko Ueshima

Naoko Ueshima is a sophomore women’s tennis student-athlete from Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan. Last year she was named to the 2007 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll. She has been honored at two Athletic Association Academic Roundtable events on the second occasion she received an award as the women’s tennis student-athlete with the highest GPA. She has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. She was recently named to the women’s tennis 2008 All-SEC Team. Naoko is the recipient of the Leighton Ballew Women’s Tennis Scholarship.

 

BIOGRAPHY

Naoko Ueshima helped lead the Georgia women’s tennis team to the SEC Tournament title with three singles wins including the match clinchers in the semifinals and finals.  Her three-set victory against Arkansas sent the Bulldogs to the title game against No. 5 Florida, and her three-set win against the Gators in the deciding match gave Georgia its second straight SEC Tournament crown.  The Hyogo, Japan, native is 33-9 overall this season including a team-best 20-3 mark in dual matches.  She also led the team with a 10-1 mark in SEC matches.  Ueshima was voted second team All-SEC.
