Bulldogs Cruise Past South Carolina, 82-64

February 14, 2008 | Men's Basketball

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia resumed its winning ways Wednesday night against South Carolina, defeating the Gamecocks 82-64 in front of a raucous Stegeman Coliseum crowd of 6,897. The Bulldogs received contributions from every available player and got their first win since January 19th, an 82-69 win against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

“Tonight we did a great job of making shots”, said head coach Dennis Felton. “It is evident from the result of tonight, especially in comparison to our last few games, that it’s a heck of a lot easier to win when you make shots than when you don’t.”

The Bulldogs found their stroke inside and outside tonight, shooting 52% from the field and 44% from three-point-range. Leading the way for the Dogs tonight was guard Sundiata Gaines, who followed his 32 points against the Florida Gators last Saturday with 27 points and eight rebounds.

“Sundiata has been extremely aggressive the last couple of games”, said Felton. “He has been able to create opportunities both for himself and his teammates.”

Freshman forward Jeremy Price recorded his best performance of his collegiate career putting up 19 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Senior center Dave Bliss continued his stellar season, adding 12 points and ten rebounds in the contest.

Devan Downey led South Carolina in scoring with 20 points; Zam Fredrick added 15.

The win propels the Bulldogs to a 12-11 record, and a 3-6 record in conference play. Georgia has a chance to continue its momentum this Saturday as they take on SEC East rival Tennessee at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. The game can be seen live on Raycom Sports and listened to on the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network. Additional coverage can be found at georgiadogs.com.
