February 12, 2008 | Softball

ATHENS, Ga. --- With the 2008 Georgia softball season now underway, Bulldog fans as well as softball enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get to know the freshmen members of Georgia’s softball team with “In The Dugout” question and answer features on Georgiadogs.com. The 10th installment in the series is with Alisa Goler.

Question: What is your favorite thing about the sport of softball?
Answer: I love softball because it allows you to be a completely different person once you step on the field. The game is all about being aggressive and competitive. I’m not sure if I could survive without it.

Q: What is your earliest softball memory?
A: When I was two, my dad told my family that he couldn’t throw any Wiffle balls passed me when I was hitting, so he told my grandpa and uncles to try and pitch them past me.

Q: Do you have a nickname on team? If so, why is that your nickname?
A: I’ve been called “G” for forever. Kristin Schnake and I played summer ball together and she also called me “G,” so when I got here she called me that and it stuck.

Q: You wear number 35 because...
A: I wear number 35 because growing up on the south side of Chicago I have always been a huge White Sox fan, and when I was little Frank Thomas was on the team, and because of how well he hit, he became my favorite player (and still is today!).

Q: Two words that describe you on the field?
A: Competitive and aggressive.

Q: Two words that describe you off the field?
A: Easy-going and comical.

Q: Who has been your most influential role model(s) and why?
A: I’ve had a lot of great coaches that have helped shaped me to who I am today, especially my high school coach, but I’d have to say that my parents are my #1 most influential role models. Seeing how hard they work everyday to allow me to do the one thing I love is something I’ll never forget. My mom was never too busy to come to all of my games, and my dad never said no to some extra batting practice.

Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?
A: Chicago White Sox.

Q: Who is your favorite singer/musical group?
A: Nickelback, Linkin Park, and T.I. are three of my favorites.

Q: What song best represents you?
A: “Her Eyes” by Pat Monahan.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I think I could watch Legally Blonde over and over again and never get sick of it.

Q: What TV/movie character are you most like?
A: Ann Marie Chadwick (Kate Bosworth’s character in Blue Crush) because she puts her friends/family first and has worked hard all her life to achieve her goal, plus, I really want to learn to surf.

Q: Who is your favorite cartoon character?
A: Grumpy from Snow White. Ever since I was little I was able to make the face he does with his one eyebrow raised and arms crossed.

Q: What is the best book that you have ever read?
A: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

Q: Who is the person you would trade places with for a day if able to do so?
A: I think I’d like to be a VJ on MTV because they are always getting to meet celebrities and music stars/groups.

Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, present or past, who would they be?
A: Frank Thomas, Michael Jordan, and Colin Farrell.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?
A: Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Q: What is the place that you haven’t traveled to, that you would most like to visit?
A: Ireland and/or Italy.

Q: What is one thing that you’ve never been able to do, but you want to someday?
A: I would love to go scuba diving in the Caribbean where the water is clear so I could see what is swimming around me!

Q: What is your favorite quote/saying?
A: “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.”
