In The Dugout With Softball's Katie Backer

ATHENS, Ga. --- With the 2008 season quickly approaching, Bulldog fans as well as softball enthusiasts can get to know members of Georgia’s softball team with “In The Dugout” question and answer features on Georgiadogs.com. The seventh installment in the series is with redshirt sophomore Katie Backer.

Question: What is it that attracted you to the University of Georgia?
Answer: It’s close to home, my brother and sister both went to UGA and it has a great softball program.

Q: What do you like most about the city of Athens?
A: I love that it is a college town. Everything is centered around the school. Plus, there are several unique restaurants and shops downtown.

Q: What is your favorite thing about the sport of softball?

A: I love that it is a team-oriented sport that is very competitive.

Q: Do you have a nickname on team?
A: Everyone calls me Backer or KB.

Q: What is the best advice you have ever received from a coach?

A: Practice like it’s a game, and play a game like you practice.

Q: Two words that describe you on the field?

A: Composed and focused.

Q: Two words that describe you off the field?
A: Silly and hardworking.

Q: Who has been your most influential role model(s) and why?
A: My parents. They have taught me to work hard in order to succeed.

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete?
A: Peyton Manning.

Q: What celebrity would you most like to meet?
A: Dane Cook. I think he’s hilarious!

Q: Do you have a favorite type of music you listen to?
A: I like everything from rap to country.

Q: Who is your favorite singer/musical group?

A: I really like Rascal Flatts.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: Ocean’s Thirteen.

Q: What was your favorite TV show growing up?
A: Saved by the Bell.

Q: What is your favorite TV show now?
A: Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.

Q: What is the best book that you have ever read?
A: Any of the Harry Potter books.

Q: Name one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you.

A: I was a dancer for nine years.

Q: Who is the person you would trade places with for a day if able to do so?

A: Victoria Beckham because she’s married to David Beckham.

Q: If you could have dinner with any three people, present or past, who would they be?

A: Dane Cook, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn.

Q: What would be your dream job?

A: Plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills.

The Georgia softball team will open its 2008 season by hosting the Red & Black Showcase Feb. 8-10 at the Georgia Soccer/Softball Complex. On the opening day of the tournament, Feb. 8, Georgia will play No. 10 DePaul at 4 p.m. ET and the College of Charleston at 6 p.m.
