Bulldogs Spread Holiday Cheer
December 19, 2008 | Men's Basketball
With final exams behind them, members of the Georgia basketball team spent their Thursday morning on a goodwill mission. They brought holiday cheer and goodwill to the infirmed at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
The Bulldogs haven't played a game since Dec. 9, when they edged Virginia Tech in a 67-66 thriller at Stegeman Coliseum. Ever since, they've been preparing for and taking Fall Semester finals, which ended Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Dennis Felton's troops wrapped up a Thursday morning practice before heading over to St. Mary's, loaded with gifts and other basketball souvenirs. A highlight of the trip was their swing through the Clute Barrow Nelson Children's Center.
"Visiting the hospital is great experience for us every year," said sophomore guard Zac Swansey. "It helps remind us of how fortunate we are to be young and healthy and active. It also just makes you feel good to know that you're cheering up people that have been sick."
Georgia returns to competition this Saturday, when it entertains Wofford in a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
