Bulldog Riders Embark on Lone Star Tour

For the first time in program history, the Georgia Equestrian team will compete in dual meets on three consecutive days when the Bulldogs take on fourth-ranked Baylor, No. 6 TCU and SMU, beginning Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Waco.
The notion of three straight meets did not materialize by design, but such a schedule may still be to Georgia's advantage. "We're very excited about our swing through Texas," said head coach Meghan Boenig. "It will be a good test that sort of mirrors the way competition is set up at Nationals. It will also be a difficult test for us, with all the travel we'll be doing this weekend. But we're looking forward to it."
The 2nd-ranked Bulldogs swept Baylor in a home-and-home series last year, Georgia winning first at Waco by a 16-8 score and also winning in Athens last February, 13-7. Early last season, Georgia defeated TCU last year by the narrowest of margins in Athens. The two teams split 10-10, but Georgia won the tie-breaker based upon each team's raw score. Particularly competitive was the Western competition, where the Horned Frogs dominated Georgia 4-1 in Horsemanship, but the Bulldogs rescued the team competition with a 4-1 victory in Reining.
"Our Western riders are really looking forward to the TCU meet, considering how last year's competition went," Boenig said.
Georgia has already defeated SMU once this season, taking the Mustangs 8-4 in Athens on Nov. 7. SMU has a Hunt Seat-only team.
The 3-match Texas swing will conclude the fall portion of Georgia's 2008-09 schedule. The Bulldogs will compete next on Feb. 7, when they take on both Fresno State and New Mexico State at Fresno, Calif.
