Equestrian Tied For Second In Latest Rankings

November 12, 2008 | Equestrian

The Georgia Equestrian team is tied for second in the latest bi-monthly national rankings that were released Tuesday by the Varsity Equestrian coaches.  The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the bi-monthly national poll.

Auburn, which defeated Georgia two weeks ago but will not compete again until January, remained in the No. 1 spot with 60 poll points.  The Bulldogs are tied with Texas A&M in second place with 48 points.  Baylor (42) and Oklahoma State (36) complete the top five teams.

Since the National Equestrian Coaches' Poll was introduced in October, the Bulldogs have been ranked no lower than third.

Georgia, at 4-1 on the season, will surely test its mettle to close out the fall portion of its schedule.  Next weekend the Bulldogs will face 4th-rated Baylor, No. 6 TCU and SMU on consecutive days, all on the road, beginning Nov. 21.

The current National Equestrian Coaches' Poll is as follows:
1. Auburn (60)
2. Georgia (48)
    Texas A&M (48)
4. Baylor (42)
5. Oklahoma State (36)
6. Texas Christian (24)
7. Fresno State (23)
8. Kansas State (21)
9. South Carolina (19)
10. New Mexico State (7)
Also receiving votes:  Delaware State (1), South Dakota State (1)
