Bulldogs Surge Into First At Brickyard Collegiate

MACON, Ga. The sixth-ranked Georgia men’s golf team surged into a tie for first place on Sunday at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship.
Playing at The Brickyard at Riverside, the Bulldogs shot a 5-over-par 285 on Sunday to move to 17-over 577 for the tournament. Trailing by 10 strokes entering the second round, Georgia is now tied for the lead with Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
“I could not be prouder of our guys,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “These players do not have the word quit’ in their vocabulary. It was good to see them maintain their focus and get back in the hunt. As a coach, that’s all you can ever ask for.”
Sophomore and Macon native Russell Henley led the second-round push as he carded a 2-under 68. Sophomore Harris English, the 2007 Brickyard medalist, and junior Hudson Swafford each signed for a 2-over 72. Freshman Patrick Reed followed at 3-over 73, and senior Brian Harman had the non-counting score of 5-over 75.
Henley is tied for fourth individually at 2-over 142, two shots behind Penn State’s Nick Archambault. English and Harman are tied for 14th at 5-over 145, while Swafford is tied for 26th at 7-over 147 and Reed is tied for 38th at 9-over 149.
Playing as an individual and making his Georgia debut, freshman Will Kropp is tied for 47th at 11-over 151. Kropp signed for a 6-over 76 on Sunday.
