January 5, 1997 - #4 Lady Bulldog swim team defeated #17 Alabama 155-136. Freshman Kristy Kowal and Courtney Shealy led Georgia with wins in the 100 breaststroke (Kowal) and in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events (Shealy).
