ATHENS, Ga. With the 2008 season quickly approaching, Bulldog fans as well as softball enthusiasts can get to know members of Georgia’s softball team with “In The Dugout” question and answer features on Georgiadogs.com. The fourth installment in the series is with junior Norie Glazebrook, who joins the squad for the 2008 campaign after transferring from Kennesaw State University.
Question: What do you like most about the city of Athens?
Answer: There is never a dull moment in Athens, and I like that aspect of it. Although we don’t get that much free time, when there is time to go out and do something you are pretty much guaranteed to have a wide variety of choices. Whether going downtown, going to a sporting event or an art exhibit or visiting the botanical gardens, there is always something fun to do.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the sport of softball?
A: What I enjoy the most about the sport of softball is the necessity for team that it possesses. What I mean is that softball is a sport that requires you to communicate and work with others. You can’t win a game by yourself - you need eight other people. I love that it really requires you to work as a team. Some sports, you can practice on your own, but it’d be hard to throw or pitch a ball to yourself. Softball requires that you learn how to be a team, and I love that about it.
Q: What is your earliest softball memory?
A: My earliest softball memory is probably when I was playing coach pitch with a broken foot. I was actually running around a softball field with a cast on my little leg because I wanted to play despite my injury.
Q: If you could play any other sport in college, what would it be?
A: If I weren’t playing softball, I definitely would have been playing basketball. I played growing up and in high school, but I had to make a choice and chose softball. I think I made the right one.
Q: What is the best part of being a collegiate-athlete?
A: The best part of being a collegiate-athlete is getting to compete. This is the highest level of competition that many of us (athletes) will ever see, and the thrill that comes from it, to me, is worth every hour of work put into it.
Q: Do you have a nickname on team? If so, why is that your nickname?
A: I don’t have a nickname despite the various attempts there have been to give me one. However, I will say that many of the girls call me “mom.” I think it started with Moe [Melissa Wood] calling me the team mom, and I guess some people just decided that I was their mom. But my name is pretty unique itself so I think that’s why none have really stuck.
Q: Two words that describe you on the field?
A: Confident and focused.
Q: Two words that describe you off the field?
A: Dorky and married.
Q: What is your favorite class you have taken so far at UGA?
A: I have really enjoyed my Spanish II class because it has only about 13 people, and I have a really fun, interactive teacher.
Q: What are your favorite hobbies outside of softball?
A: Outside of softball I love to do stuff with my husband (Charlie Mueller) whether it is watching television, playing tennis or going on a walk together. I also enjoy visiting my family, traveling, snowboarding, reading and writing.
Q: Who has been your most influential role model(s) and why?
A: My parents have been the most influential role models in my life because they have taught me what is important in life, my faith and my family. My mother is a mother of four, and I think we’d all be lying if we said she wasn’t each of our best friend. She has always been supportive about softball and has always pushed me to be a better player. My father is the most hard-working and wonderful man I’ve ever met, and his influence on my athletic career is unmatched. He has taught me to be the best athlete I can be while still realizing the big picture in life. I love them both very much.
Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete?
A: I don’t really have a favorite professional athlete, but I do admire my father, Bob Glazebrook, who played professional football for the Atlanta Falcons. Not everyone can say his or her father played a professional sport, and to say that mine has is special to me.
Q: What celebrity would you most like to meet?
A: I would like to meet Steve Carell because he makes good comedic movies without being trashy and seems like he’d be super down-to-earth.
Q: Do you have a favorite type of music you listen to?
A: I love all kinds of music from Christian to rap to classical. It just depends on what mood I’m in. I like to start my day off with Christian radio, listen to rap when I feel like dancing and turn on the classical when I’m studying.
Q: Who is your favorite singer/musical group?
A: I really enjoy Third Day because their lyrics are meaningful to my life and the lead singer’s voice is amazing. I also like The Frey, Coldplay, Warren Barfield and Matt Wertz.
Q: What song best represents you?
A: I think a song that represents me fairly well is “Born to Fly” by Sara Evans.
Q: Who is your favorite movie star?
A: My favorite movie star is Edward Norton because he makes good movies. From Fight Club to Primal Fear and Rounders, if his name is in it then it’s going to be good.
Q: Who is your favorite cartoon character?
A: SpongeBob SquarePants! Because he is not only funny looking and sounding, but also he is funny in general. And his best friend is Patrick the starfish!
Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?
A: Hendersonville, N.C., because it’s where I got engaged, has the coolest rock museum ever and is a beautiful quaint town with lots of nice people.
Q: What is the place that you haven’t traveled to, that you would most like to visit?
A: I would love, and plan, to visit Rome because I think it would be absolutely breathtaking and an unforgettable experience.
