The Dan Magill Tennis Complex has long stood as a beacon of excellence in collegiate tennis. With a total of 16 courts (12 outdoor and four indoor) and a total seating capacity of over 5,000 fans, it is one of the largest on-campus tennis facilities in the country. The ever-evolving complex underwent a $7.5 million development and renovation project in 2002 that included the construction of brand-new men’s clubhouse. In 1991, the complex received lights thanks to the generous support of Oscar-winning actress and Athens native, Kim Basinger. Pictured above is Henry Feild Stadium, the central portion of the complex, with the new clubhouse overlooking Court 1.
Regarded as one of the best collegiate tennis facilites in America, the complex has hosted the Men’s NCAA Championships a total of 21 times, most recently in 2007. All four of Georgia’s National Championships were won their home courts at the Magill complex. The complex has also served as host to the Women’s NCAA Championships several times as well, including the most recent one in 2007. Aside from Georgia’s best players, the Magill Tennis Complex has hosted classic matchups featuring such stars as John McEnroe and the Bryan brothers, who all went on to highly successful professional careers.
The NCAA Championships returned to Athens in 2007 as the Dan Magill Tennis Complex became just the second site to host the combined men’s and women’s championships.
One of the largest facilities in collegiate tennis, the Dan Magill Tennis Complex has traditionally drawn some of the largest crowds as well. Georgia’s outstanding facility has hosted the Men’s NCAA Championships over 20 times, including 13 in a row from 1977-89.
