Georgia Equestrian Heads To Baylor

September 28, 2007 | Equestrian

ATHENS, Ga. --- After a pair of too-close-for-comfort wins last weekend, the Georgia Equestrian team takes its act to Waco, Texas, for a Sunday afternoon meet against Baylor. Competition gets underway at the Willis Family Equestrian Center at 1:00 p.m. Central Time.

The Bulldogs opened the 2007-08 campaign at 2-0 by defeating Delaware State and TCU last weekend. Georgia used a 4-1 advantage in the last event, Reining, to edge past the Hornets by a final tally of 13-7. Against TCU, however, a tie-breaker was needed to settle a 10-all standoff after all events had been completed. With all
scores totaled minus the low score in each discipline Georgia claimed victory by the slimmest of margins: 1,354 to 1,349.

The razor’s-edge finish against TCU, while causing anxious moments last Sunday, offered plenty of motivation for the Baylor meet this weekend. “We reviewed video and have been practicing hard on correcting our mistakes,” Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. “I think last weekend showed that maybe we’re not as strong as we think we are. It also showed that other schools are stepping up their programs, and we need to be ready to meet their challenges.”
Still, Georgia had plenty of strong rides last Sunday, led by the corps of reiners who brought the Bulldogs back from a 9-6 deficit against Baylor. Sarah Locker, Nichole Grant, Hannah Dyer and Kate Stewart all posted winning rides in the final event and, not coincidentally, all are slated to ride this weekend at Baylor.
