SAAC Joins Other SEC Schools in League-Wide Food Drive

September 25, 2007 | General

ATHENS------- The University of Georgia Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is spearheading a local food drive in the Athens-Clarke County area as part of a league-wide effort sponsored by the Southeastern Conference.

The Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is coordinating the food drive during the dates of Sept. 21-30. All 12 SEC institutions are participating by collecting food and financial donations at various sporting events and on campuses.

Locally, the "2007 SEC Together We CAN Drive" will benefit the Food Bank of N.E. Georgia. Members of the UGA SAAC will be collecting can goods at three events this upcoming weekend: soccer vs. Florida on Friday, Sept. 28th, football vs. Ole Miss on Saturday, September 29th, and volleyball vs. LSU on Sunday, September 30th.

On Saturday, SAAC members will be stationed in front of the Coliseum Training Facility on Carlton Street, in front of Aderhold on Carlton Street, in front of the Staff Training & Development center on Jackson Street and by the parking deck and surface lots on Hull Street.

The SEC SAAC is comprised of two student-athletes from each institution. The SAAC was established to serve as a medium of communication through which student-athletes, conference administrators, institutional representatives and coaches discuss and take action on issues relating to rules governance, student-athlete welfare and community service.

The "2007 SEC Together We CAN Drive" will benefit food banks in the Southeastern Conference region.
