Getting to Know Georgia Volleyball Student-Athlete Lindsay Gehan

ATHENS, Ga. --- Throughout the season 2007 volleyball season, both volleyball fans and Bulldog fans alike can get to know members of the UGA volleyball team with question and answer sessions being featured on Georgiadogs.com on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Lindsay Gehan, a native of Dallas, Texas, is a freshman middle hitter for the Bulldogs and is part five-of-16 in the series.

Question: What is it that attracted you to Georgia?

Answer: How hospitable it was, the friendly people and how much it felt like Dallas.

Q: What do you like most about the city of Athens?

A: Football game days when everyone is tailgating and music is in the air.

Q: What is your favorite thing about the sport of volleyball?

A: The competitive nature and how fast the plays go.

Q: What is your earliest volleyball memory?

A: Playing in the seventh grade in our high school gym wearing our long maroon shorts and huge kneepads.

Q: What volleyball memory stands out the most for you?

A: This year playing Florida at their place in our first SEC match. The atmosphere was amazing and starting off (SEC play) with the No. 6 team in the country was so exciting.

Q: If you could play any other sport in college, what would it be?

A: Soccer.

Q: What is the best part of being a collegiate-athlete?

A: Having so many resources available: tutors, mentors and anything you need to succeed.

Q: What (if any) pre-game superstitions or rituals do you have?

A: Listen to music

Q: What are some of your favorite things to do in your spare time when you are not playing volleyball?

A: Hanging out with friends, listening to and finding new music, shopping and laying by the pool.

Q: Who is your most influential role model(s)?

A: My parents. They didn’t push me at all to play college athletics, stayed by my side with whatever I wanted to do and are proud of me no matter what.

Q: Who is your favorite professional athlete?

A: Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks.

Q: Do you have a favorite type of music you listen to? A favorite artist?

A: Country; I love The Fray

Q: What is your favorite movie(s)?

A: Knocked Up, She’s the Man and Step Up.

Q: Do you have a favorite food or meal?

A: I love all types of cereal

Q: What is your favorite holiday?

A: Halloween or Christmas

Q: Name one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you.

A: I’m half Dutch

Q: What is the place that you haven’t traveled to, which you would most like to visit?

A: Australia

Q: Who was your favorite teacher and what was your favorite subject in high school?

A: My favorite subject was biology and my favorite teacher was Mrs. Henderson

Q: How did you spend your summer in 2007?

A: Played volleyball at Nationals in Minneapolis and then came here to Athens

Q: Do you have a nickname on team? If so, why is that your nickname?

A: “G” my club team called me that for my last name Gehan and it stuck when I came here

The Bulldogs (11-3, 2-2) will return to action this weekend when they play host to Ole Miss (12-3, 2-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. and LSU (11-2, 3-1) on Sunday at 2 p.m.

At the match against Ole Miss, the first 100 UGA students with a valid student ID will receive a free t-shirt, a drawing will be held for tickets to Saturday’s football game also against Ole Miss and the UGA Accidentals will perform at the intermission. Following the contest with LSU, the volleyball team will hold an autograph session.
