ATHENS, Ga. --- Former Georgia golfer Chris Kirk has been named to the United States team for the 2007 Walker Cup, according to an announcement made this week by the United States Golf Association.

The Walker Cup Match consists of 16 singles and eight foursomes matches pitting Americans against the counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland.
This year's event will take place Sept. 8-9 at Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, Ireland. The United States reclaimed the Cup with a one-point victory at Chicago Golf Club in 2005 and now leads the series overall 32-7-1.

A native of Woodstock, Kirk capped his college career by winning the 2007 Ben Hogan Award as the nation's top collegiate golfer. Kirk was a three-time All-American and a three-time All-SEC performer, including 2006 when he was picked as the SEC Player of the Year. He set the school record with seven individual wins, four of which came his senior season.

Joining Kirk on the United States roster are Jonathan Moore, Jamie Lovemark, Trip Kuehne, Billy Horschel, Dustin Johnson, Colt Knost and Webb Simpson.
George "Buddy" Marucci, 55, who played on the U.S. Walker Cup teams of 1995 and 1997 and was runner-up to Tiger Woods at the 1995 U.S. Amateur, will serve as team captain.
