Stegeman Coliseum

August 16, 2007 | General

The Stegeman Coliseum Athletic Training Room is the primary athletic training room for all Olympic sport athletes at the University of Georgia. It was refurbished and redesigned in October 1997. It accommodates the needs of over 400 athletes.

This athletic training room is stocked with numerous treatment tables, massage tables, and taping decks. Several modality units, such as electrical stimulation units, ultrasound, laser units, diathermy, and a hydrocollator are placed around the treatment tables for convenient use. A Cybex machine is available for strength testing and rehabilitation of various injuries. A Balance Master is also available for rehabilitation purposes. The Coliseum Athletic Training room has three bikes (two recumbent and one upright), an upper body ergometer (UBE), SportsRac, treadmill, slide board, and a Stairmaster. Other rehabilitation tools include Theraband and tubing, dumbbell and cuff weights, Swiss balls, Bosus, foam rolls, and step blocks.

One of the highlighted areas in the Coliseum Athletic Training Room is the hydrotherapy room. This room is separated from the rest of the treatment area by a wall of windows to allow for adequate supervision of hydrotherapy treatments while reducing the noise level to the remainder of the facility. The hydrotherapy room contains four whirlpools, a HydroTrack, an ice machine, and a freezer.

The Coliseum Athletic Training Room is staffed by seven full-time athletic trainers, seven graduate assistant athletic trainers, one physical therapist, an insurance coordinator, and approximately 30 athletic training students. The athletic training room has five staff offices, a semi-private massage area, and a doctor's exam room.
