'Red, White & Blog': Ashley Houts Journal Entry #4

July 07, 2007 | Women's Basketball

'Hello again! Things here have been picking up very fast.

Yesterday, we enjoyed a great practice then help put on a clinic for the small children at the embassy. Thankfully they spoke English so we were able to play some fun games and interact with them a lot. Afterwards, we attended a picnic at the US Ambassador's place in which 4500 people were invited! Luckily, only about 2500 or so people showed up (maybe a little less) and we enjoyed trying out the different finger foods and mingling with different people.

'So, up next is Belgium tonight at 8:15. Now that the preliminary rounds are over with we can focus on beating one team at a time in order to make it to the final game for the gold medal. We are all trying to stay focused and just play USA basketball.

'Did I mention the Russian traffic is AWFUL?!?! Each team is assigned their own charter bus and a police escort to the gym for practices and games and boy do those come in handy! Some days we just fly right through but others (like today) we barely make it to the gym in time for practice!

'Well, thank you all so much again for staying tuned. Hopefully I can get back with you once more before the trips ends and keep you posted on what is going on here. For more info and recently uploaded pictures you can go to the USA Basketball website and find them there. Thanks again, and wish us luck for the first round of the finals!!!'
