Georgia Softball Picks Up Two Wins Over Furman

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs (35-22) secured a doubleheader sweep over the Furman Paladins (14-26-1) on Wednesday with 9-1 and 8-0 wins at the Georgia Softball Complex.

Kasi Carroll (20-7) tallied the game one win after limiting the Paladins to one earned run and three hits in 5.0 innings.

Charvi Greer paced Georgia offensively in game one after going 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Kellie Middleton, Victoria Sanders, and Jessica Gardner each contributed two RBI in the win.

Christie Hamilton (13-11) hurled a two-hit shutout to earn the five-inning win in the nightcap. The sophomore from Acworth, Ga., helped her cause at the plate in game two by going 2-for-3 with a home run and a season-high five RBI.

Middleton gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one on an RBI single to left field.

The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 2-0 in the second inning on Sanders’ two-out RBI single.

Middleton extended the Georgia lead to 3-0 in the third inning on an RBI double to center field.

Furman cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning courtesy of Megan Jaudon’s RBI double.

Georgia scored for the fourth consecutive inning in the fourth to stretch its lead to 6-1. Sanders plated the first run on an RBI fielder’s choice. The Bulldogs added their second run on Greer’s RBI single. Sanders manufactured the third run of the frame after stealing third base and scoring on a throwing error.

The Bulldogs sealed the win in the fifth inning after collecting three runs. Kacey Coonce knocked in the first run after reaching on an error. Gardner tallied her first career hit with a pinch-hit two-RBI double to round out the scoring in the fifth.

Lana Mackey (7-11) took the loss for the Paladins after allowing four earned runs and six hits in 4.0 innings of work. Georgia pounded out four runs and four hits in the third inning of game two to take a 4-0 lead. Kristin Schnake scored the first run after reaching home on a throwing error. Megan McAllister plated the second run of the frame on an RBI double. Hamilton plated the final two runs on a two-RBI single to center field.

The Bulldogs closed out game two with four runs in the fifth inning. Hamilton plated the first three runs on a three-run blast down the left field line. Gardner knocked in the final run on an RBI single to right center field.

Blake Murray (6-13) was credited with the loss after allowing eight earned runs and eight hits in 4.0 innings.

Georgia returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. First pitch for Saturday’s doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. EDT.
